Korea’s Pavilion Won Gold Award at Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha Qatar
The Korean pavilion was highly recognized for an outdoor garden well expressing Korean traditional beauty of forests and
for K-smart farm technologies.
Sejong, 30 April 2024 — At the International Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha Qatar,1) the first such expo held in the Middle East
from 2 October 2023 to 28 March 2024, the Republic of Korea’s pavilion earned a gold medal in the large pavilion category.
On the expo site, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Forest Service of the Republic of Korea built a pavilion
consisting of a Korean-style outdoor garden and smart farms showcasing Korea’s advanced agricultural technologies. The opening
ceremony of the Korean pavilion was visited on 24 October last year by President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea who
was on his state visit to Qatar, accompanied by HE Minister of Municipality Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie.
1)The international horticultural expo was organized under the theme "Green Desert, Better Environment" and participated in by 80 countries and international organizations,
including the Republic of Korea, Japan, Italy, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The winners of the awards had been selected by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and the International Association of
Horticultural Producers (AIPH) after a total of 80 pavilions had been thoroughly inspected and evaluated in terms of the levels of
technological innovation, the levels of the main theme having been highlighted in the pavilions, etc. The Korean pavilion garnered critical
acclaim and received one of the four gold awards granted to the four pavilion categories2), particularly for showcasing a harmony of
(a) an outdoor garden well expressing Korean traditional beauty based on a Korean forest motif and (b) K-smart farm technologies
employing advanced information and communications technologies such as vertical farms and agricultural robots.
2)Four pavilion categories for four gold medals: a large pavilion, a mid-sized pavilion, a self-built pavilion, and an interior design pavilion.
