The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (Minister Chung Hwang-keun, MAFRA) is to promote a campaign entitled “Month of Tourism in 2022” by providing discounted rural tourism products, events of confirming one’s visit to rural villages and recommendations for best rural tourist destinations by themes, in order to preemptively stimulate rural tourism as we are returning to pre COVID-19 life step by step.

From June 2, staying-type rural tourism products which include rural experience or retreat villages and rural tourist attractions will be provided at 30 to 50% discounted price. Seven cities (si) and guns including Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi-do; Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do; and Sangju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do run various experience programs including hands-on dairy experience, glamping or glamorous camping, rural food table, etc.

Also, best rural tourist destinations will be recommended by themes and various rural tourism promotion events will be held in connection with the “Month of Tourism.” ▲ Event of confirming ones’ visit to rural villages (“Rural villages, which ones have you been to?” June 2 to July 31), ▲ Contest to name the character of Welchon, a rural tourism website (“Welchon character, please name it,” June 7 to June 17), ▲ Balance game on summer rural tourism (“Balance game, what’s your choice?” June 20 to July 1)

Director Choi Jung-mi of the Rural Industry Division from MAFRA said, “Taking this opportunity of “Month of Tourism,” I wish city dwellers can visit rural villages and relax their bodies and souls, exhausted by COVID-19, while bringing rural tourism back better.”

“We will continue to monitor the safety of rural tourism facilities so that tourists can visit rural areas without concerns,” the official explained.
