At the finals held on September 20 (Tue.), the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (Minister Chung Hwang-keun, MAFRA) selected the final winners of 2022 Agri-food Start-up Contest. 

This year marks the 8th anniversary of the Agri-food Start-up Contest, which has explored promising entrepreneurs with good technologies and ideas while serving as an opportunity for business promotion and investment. 

 A total of 382 companies including innovative businesses using advanced technologies such as smart farm, green-bio and food technologies participated at this contest. 

After document screening, presentation reviews, and mock Investors Relations (IR), 10 businesses have become finalists out of the fierce competition ratio of 38 to 1 on September 20. 

At the finals, businesses' items and technological competitiveness were presented through Investor Relations (IR) in front of the judge consisting of incumbent investors, venture experts of academic and public institutions, followed by Q&A session. The general public also participated in the evaluation through the livestreaming of "Nongreowa," an official Youtube Channel of MAFRA.

The highest award (Award of the President, prize of 50 million won) went to "SY-Solution," a food tech company which introduced advanced alternative meat by improving the mushy texture of plant-based meat. 

 "SY-Solution" developed technology to capture plant-based fat globule* with flavor similar to juicy meat through microencapsulation, providing juice and flavor that do not melt away even after being heated.  
* Fat globule is plant-based material rich in dietary fiber, amino acid and vitamins and acts as fat, consisting of plant-based oil and purified water.

CEO Park Seo-young of SY-Solution said, "We will try to make alternative food that both vegetarians and non-vegetarians can enjoy by improving taste and nutrition of alternative meat." 

The grand award (Award of the Prime Minister, prize of 20 million won) went to "AIO Farm" which developed the system to sort out the quality of agricultural products by using deep learning technology of artificial intelligence. 

The company developed the artificial intelligence system specialized in agriculture which can sort 33,000 agricultural products such as apples and peaches an hour with the vision inspection technique with 99% precision rate. The system is highly expected to address labor shortage problem when agricultural products are released altogether.

The excellence award (Award of the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, prize of 10 million won) went to "Bodit" and "Age@Labs Inc."

"Bodit" developed technology to analyze the behaviors of calves with artificial intelligence for 24 hours (lactation, rumination, cough, etc.) by attaching necklace sensors. Based on the information, detailed breeding solution which can preemptively detect the disease was developed to reduce the mortality rate of calves and increase farmers' income.

"Age@Labs Inc" introduced bio food which is effective for building up skin barrier, skin moisturizing and wrinkle improvement by repairing damaged skin with Mucin contained in the excretion from a snail.

Also, awards of the President of Korea Agriculture Technology Promotion Agency (Winning award, prize of 5 million won) went to 6 teams including "Vegestar," "WOODWARD BIO," "Griin," "Nature Tech. Bio S," "Booze&Buzz," and "WLSV."

The final winners will receive not only the awards and prizes but also support for exploring distribution channels from MAFRA, promotional activities, and other programs funded by big conglomerates, etc.
