The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (Minister Chung Hwang-keun, MAFRA) has been putting forward a project titled “Jikimi (a combined word consisting of “jiki-da” meaning to protect and “mi (米)” referring to rice) babcha (literally “rice truck,” a food truck offering free meals),” connecting agriculture, rural areas and the people . The project aims to strengthen communication with those in agriculture and rural areas and to express gratitude to individuals or institutions who protect the agricultural community through dedicated support by sending them food trucks offering free meals made with domestic agricultural produce.   

This year, Jikimi babcha No. 1 and No.2 were dispatched to the Buan Fire Station in Jeollabuk-do and Gangneung Fire Station in Gangwon-do, respectively. The Buan Fire Station ensures safety of pregnant women in rural areas in case of emergency by providing a dedicated ambulance for pregnant women in rural areas, and the Gangneung Fire Station saves lives, guarantees safety of the public and protects nature from repeated wildfire disasters. 

MAFRA plans to send food trucks to the field of agriculture and rural areas nationwide going forward to express gratitude, while also introducing agricultural policy priorities such as the floury rice industry which will play a pivotal role in future food security and direct payment scheme for strategic crops. As part of such efforts, the Ministry will upload a series of promotional videos of Jikimi babcha onto its official Youtube channel (http://youtube.com/@mafrakorea) from June 7 (Wednesday) consecutively to promote the precious value of agriculture and rural areas to the people.  

MAFRA’s Spokesperson Kim Jeong-ju said, “We will further enhance communication between the agricultural field and the people by offering humble yet meaningful meals full of gratitude to those who dedicatedly support the agricultural sector, rural areas and farmers, so that the public can be reminded of the importance of agriculture and rural areas.”
