The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (Minister Chung Hwang-keun, MAFRA) will hold the inauguration ceremony of the 「consultative body for development of the Korean food industry」 ("Consultative Body") which will play an essential role in strengthening competitiveness of the Korean food industry at the Korean Food Culture Space (Bukchon, Seoul) at 14:00 on May 31 (Wednesday).
The consultative body devises the systematic development strategy of the Korean Food Industry which is on par with its elevated status thanks to efforts made by the private and public sectors and Hallyu, or Korean Wave, by gathering opinions of experts of the private sector. A total of 24 experts are included in the list including Michelin star chefs of Korean food, those from academia, Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and relevant ministries‧organizations.
At the inauguration ceremony, a chairperson who will co-lead the consultative body with Deputy Minister Kwon Jae-han of the Agricultural Innovation Policy Office of MAFRA will be elected and experts' opinions will be gathered. In his speech, Deputy Minister Kwon will mention, "We will come up with measures reflecting the ideas of private sector experts on the field across the front∙rear industries so that the Korean food industry will become more valuable and attractive and will make a leap forward in the global market."
Going forward, the consultative body will continue to explore projects based on the needs of the industry and announce the "measures to strengthen competitiveness of the Korean food industry (tentative title)" within this year.
