Vice President of Côte d'Ivoire appreciated the Republic of Korea's proposal of agricultural cooperation and reiterated solid relationship between the two countries
In the morning of October 19th (Thursday, local time), Minister Chung Hwang-keun of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of the Republic of Korea had a meeting with Vice President Tiémoko Meyliet Koné of Côte d'Ivoire and discussed how to promote agricultural cooperation including the "K-Ricebelt" project. In the afternoon of the same day, the Minister went all-out to win Korea's bid to host the World Expo 2030 in Busan at the "National day" event joined by high-profile local officials and hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Côte d’Ivoire, promoting active "agricultural diplomacy."
Minister Chung Hwang-keun visited Côte d'Ivoire as a special presidential envoy, one month after President Yoon Suk Yeol proposed food security cooperation to Vice President Koné at the United Nations General Assembly on September 19. The Minister delivered the handwritten letter of President Yoon to the Vice President of Côte d'Ivoire and promised to share Korea's agricultural technologies and experience with Côte d'Ivoire which became the 10th recipient country of the K-Ricebelt project. Minister Kobenan Adjoumani of Agriculture and Rural Development and Minister Adom of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire also participated in the meeting, demonstrating high interest of the government of Côte d'Ivoire.
As an Ivorian economist and politician, Vice President Koné mentioned that he and President Alassane Ouattara were both aware of Korea's remarkable achievement and welcomed cooperation with the Republic of Korea through the K-Ricebelt project as rice self-sufficiency is an important issue. The Vice President expressed his gratitude to President Yoon and the Korean government that showed continuous friendship and said that the government of Côte d'Ivoire would build more solid friendship with the government of the Republic of Korea in the future.
In the afternoon of the same day, Minister Chung Hwang-keun attended the “National Day” event held at the Ivorio-Korean Sports, Cultural & ICT Center. There, the Minister had conversations with major high-level officials in the agriculture, diplomacy, transport, communications sectors, asked for their support for World Expo 2030 in Busan Korea and explained competitive edge of the Republic of Korea.
Minister Chung Hwang-keun said, "I believe I made a good impression to leaders here by building a consensus and explaining Korea's unique experience of agricultural development in detail as the first Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of the Republic of Korea visiting Côte d'Ivoire. The fact that the Republic of Korea provides its vision of addressing food crisis to the international community is in line with the themes of World Expo 2030 Busan which aims to reduce inequality among and within nations and provide the platform of solidarity. Therefore, I will promote active agricultural diplomacy in the future.
