The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (Minister Chung Hwang-keun, MAFRA) and the Presidential Commission on Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth (Co-chaired by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and Advisor of KAIST's Green Growth Sustainability Kim Sang-hyup) jointly organize the "Forum on Sustainable Agricultural Strategies and Measures for Adapting to the Era of Climate Crisis" at 2 p.m. on November 10th at Royal Hotel Seoul.
The forum aims to gather opinions from agricultural experts and stakeholders in the field to successfully implement the strategies and tasks outlined in the "3rd National Climate Crisis Adaptation Reinforcement Plan" in the agricultural sector, established in June of this year.
The key agenda items include: (1) the impact of climate change on agriculture (presented by Kim Kwang-soo, Director of the National Center for Agro Meteorology), (2) strategies for developing stable agricultural and livestock production technologies (presented by Ahn Ok-sun, Director of the Smart Agriculture Climate Response Project at the Rural Development Administration), (3) stabilization measures for the introduction of international grains (presented by Ko Min-sik, Executive Director at POSCO International), (4) management of agricultural water and infrastructure for extreme weather conditions (presented by Yoo Seung-hwan, Professor at Chonnam National University), and (5) cultivation of tropical crops for coping with global warming (presented by Lee Jong-guk, CEO of Bogner Coffee Farm). In addition, six experts, including Yoo Ga-yeong, a member of the Just Transition and Climate Change Adaptation Sub-commission of the Presidential Commission, will provide their insights on the government's prioritized support and strategies for proactive measures to mitigate climate change.
Director General Lee Jae-sik of the Animal Welfare and Environment Policy Bureau at MAFRA emphasized the need for practical measures to fight climate change in the agriculture industry, stating that agriculture is a climate-sensitive industry, and overcoming climate challenges requires technological innovation and collaboration between the public and private sectors.
Furthermore, Choi Jin-hyuk, Director of the Commission's Inclusive Development and Transition Bureau, expressed his commitment to supporting the agricultural sector in establishing itself as a leading industry in climate change response amid the current threat of climate crisis.
The content of the presentations will be live-streamed on the official YouTube channel of the Presidential Commission on Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth, allowing real-time comments to gather public opinions. * You can access the live stream by searching for "Forum on Sustainable Agricultural Strategies and Measures for Adapting to Climate Change"
