Information on Rural Unoccupied and Derelict Houses Is Shared for Transactions on Online Platforms
Sejong, 11 June 2025— On 11 June, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) will launch the programme to promote the transactions of rural unoccupied and derelict houses. The programme provides support to ensure that unoccupied and derelict houses can be registered as property listings on online real estate transaction platforms in the private sector (e.g. m.karhanbang.com, disco.re, etc.), as well as on GREENDAERO (greendaero.go.kr, etc.), which is the government-run online platform for providing comprehensive information for those coming to rural areas for farming and rural residence. With this registration, prospective buyers will be allowed to access information on unoccupied and derelict houses. Currently, 18 local governments, 4 management agencies, and approximately 100 real estate agents have been selected to join the programme.
Starting from 11 June, among 18 selected local governments, 10 local governments—which have information on the owners of unoccupied and derelict houses—will send the owners a text message of asking whether they agree to transactions of such houses under their ownership. The other eight local governments will conduct an investigation to find out unoccupied and derelict houses in their jurisdictions and gather related information, and then send the text message to the owners of such houses.
After their consent forms have been submitted, selected real estate agents register tradable unoccupied and derelict houses as property listings on online real estate transaction platforms in the private sector and GREENDAERO. Afterwards, information on tradable unoccupied and derelict houses is shown on such platforms.
