◈ The statistical survey was conducted on the production of insects including the number
of insect farms and breeding size; the distribution including the number of processors and
sales of insects; and the insect industry as a whole including insect experience centers and
ecological parks (Administrative survey), in accordance with the Insect Industry
Promotion and Support Act.
◈ The domestic insect industry is worth 41.4 billion won. Among them, edible insects
account for 51.6%, insects for feed, 22.5%, insects for learning and pets, 107%, and others,
15.6%. The percentage of insects for feed has sharply increased (up 55% year-on-year).
* The sales of insects (primary production) reached 41.4 billion won (14.7 billion won for
Protaetia Brevitarsis, 9.3 for Dong-ae-deung-e, 3.3 for darkling beetles, 3.2 for crickets, 2.9
for beetles, 1.6 for stag beetles and 6.4 for silk worm and others)

◈ The number of businesses and farmers in the insect industry (production, processing,
distribution) increased by 13.3% from 2,535 to 2,873
○ 1,416 producers, 8 processors, 165 distributors, 44 producer/processors, 731 producer/distributors, 15 processor/distributors, 494 producer/processor/distributors
* The number of farmers involved in more than 2 types of insect businesses at the same time were
1,284, or 44.7% of the total.
○ As for the type of insects, there were 1,242 businesses for Protaetia Brevitarsis, 407 for beetles, 279 for crickets, 274 for darkling beetles, 166 for Dong-ae-deung-e and 152 for stag beetles.
