S. Korea Continues to Expand the Project for Demolition and Improvement of Rural Spaces
Sejong, 5 February 2025 — On 4 February, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) selected 12 zones in rural areas as new recipients of the project for demolition and improvement of rural spaces for the year 2025.
Facilities built in rural areas through reckless development emit odour, noise, contaminants, etc., which contributes to worsening the quality of life of residents living there.
Under the project, the MAFRA provides support for local governments to demolish or move such facilities to other places and use the regenerated land for other purposes such as resting places and service facilities for residents. A maximum of KRW 15 billion in fiscal support per one zone is provided by the MAFRA and local governments for five years. From 2021 to 2024, a total of 92 zones in rural areas were selected as recipients of the project.
From February to March this year, the MAFRA will select additional zones in rural areas where the project will be carried out to demolish and improve rural spaces.
