□ (Situation status) Risks have increased due to: more migratory birds in this February than before; antigens detected* among wild birds; and migratory birds moving through the central and northern part of Korea to further migrate northwards**. * 1.3 million were confirmed as of February 2023: down 6.6% compared to the previous month (Jan. 2023), up 13.3% year-on-year (Feb. 2022) ** The analysis on birds with GPS confirmed that some migratory birds moved to Chungcheongnam-do, Chungcheongbuk-do and Gyeonggi-do (14 to 21 February). □ (Disease control measures) 「Special Disease Control Period for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza」, scheduled to be terminated in February will be extended by a month until the end of March, while making all-out efforts to prevent the spread of HPAI. O (Lab test) The strengthened lab testing system* will be maintained until March. Areas with higher risk of outbreaks during the migration period will be designated as 「Areas with high risk during the period of migratory birds moving northwards」 and be managed in a strengthened manner**. * (Laying hen, parent duck, and quail, etc.) Once in two weeks, (Broiler) 3~4 times during the breeding period ** In case of outbreaks in high-risk areas (5 cities and provinces, 20 cities and counties), lab tests are conducted every week. O (Disinfection) 「Nationwide Intensive Disinfection Period」 will be extended until the end of March. The disinfection status of farms will be monitored. In case of any violation, a non-compliance record will be requested and an administrative fine may be imposed. O (Laying hens) Intensive management areas for laying hens will be expanded to Chungcheongbuk-do and Jeollabuk-do**. All-out efforts will be made as control points are operated, exclusive disinfection vehicles will be dispatched and disease control situation will be monitored. * 3 cities and provinces, 10 cities and counties → 5 cities and provinces, 12 cities and counties (Eumseong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do and Gimje-si, Jeollabuk-do were added)
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (Minister Chung Hwang-keun, MAFRA) held the Livestock Quarantine Deliberation Committee Meeting on 27 February and announced that it would extend the 「Special Disease Control Period for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza」, scheduled to be over on 28 February, by a month until 31 March.
