Oeam Folk Village: Rural Village of Late Joseon Dynasty
Sejong, 12 September 2024 — On 9 September, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) released a map for tourist attractions to promote rural tourism in the autumn.
Among the rural tourist villages on the map, Oeam Folk Village (외암민속마을)—a clan village in the city of Asan in Chungcheongnam-do, a province of South Korea—preserves the appearances of a rural village (e.g. historic traditional house, stone walls with thatched roofs, etc.) of the late period of the Joseon dynasty.
During the Chuseok holidays, 68 rural tourist villages across the nation provide diverse entertainments for rural experiences such as traditional play, fruit harvesting, lodging in a rural village, etc. Also, 76 best local restaurants offer local native dishes such as steamed rice wrapped in a lotus leaf, tteok-galbi (grilled short rib patties), beoseot-jeongol (mushroom hotpot), etc. Eleven places of important national heritage—Hansan ramie fabric weaving in the county (gun) of Seocheon, the bamboo forest in the county of Damyang, etc.—provide an opportunity to experience a wide range of agricultural resources.
The tourist attractions maps with the information above are available for free at eight train stations* from 9 to 22 September and can be downloaded from the homepage of the MAFRA.

Minister Song Miryung of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, who visited Oeam Folk Village on 12 September, said, “I hope that your resting in rural areas during the Chuseok holidays will give you the opportunities to relax your body and mind, as well as make good memories with your families.”
