On March 8 (Wednesday), Minister Chung Hwang-keun of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs visited sites of rural revitalization including sites of the Rural Residence Establishment for Young People Project and the Rural Space Reorganization Project in Seocheon-gun and had a meeting with the policy customers including the residents.
There, Minister Chung Hwang-keun listened to challenges and recommendations of the residents of the Rural Residence Establishment for Young People Project and discussed ways to ensure stable rural settlement of the residents. The residents expressed their satisfaction of the living environment and requested further support for daycare service and playgrounds for their children within the residential complex.
MAFRA has been newly establishing residential complexes and providing support for stable settlement of young people in the rural community by easing their housing and childcare burden since 2019. As of 2023, 9 complexes were selected. Among them, moving into 4 pilot project complexes including the one in Seocheon-gun was completed. * (In 2019) 4 complexes (Goesan-gun, Seocheon-gun, Goheung-gun, Sangju-si) → (In 2022) 1 (Miryang-si) → (In 2023) 4 (Samcheok-si, Eumseong-gun, Gongju-si, Gimje-si)
The Minister said, "It is very impressive to see the vibrant rural village filled with 100 young people including 25 children. I wish the rural residence complex in Seocheon-gun can be an exemplary case where young people successfully settle in the rural community. As the Minister in charge of rural revitalization, I will provide active support so that young population can be attracted to and settle in rural areas by continuously expanding the Rural Residence Establishment for Young People Project."
In addition, Minister Chung visited Daemagul Village, or the site of Rural Space Reorganization Project in Hwaseong-ri, Seocheon-gun. The project aims to remove livestock facilities∙factories within a village and re-establish it as a pleasant rural village. Through this project, the livestock facility located in the middle of the village will be demolished and temporary residential platform will be established instead for those returning to farming or rural areas.
The Minister mentioned, "The Rural Space Reorganization Project is one of the main policy projects to support rural revitalization. The project began in 2021 in a pilot site and has been significantly expanded since last year." "I look forward to seeing the successful results of the Rural Space Reorganization Project in Seocheon-gun, as I can see passion and willingness of mayor Kim Ki-woong and other staff members of Seocheon-gun. The government will spare no effort so that Daemagul village can be a successful example of the Rural Space Reorganization Project," he added.
Meanwhile, MAFRA is currently selecting new sites for the Rural Space Reorganization Project of 2023. In the first half of this year, a total of 32 sites will be selected through a stringent deliberation. Active interest and participation of local governments are necessary to improve living conditions of rural villages nationwide which have urgent need for reorganization such as the removal of harmful places through the Rural Space Reorganization Project.
