Minister Chung Hwang-keun of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of the Republic of Korea plans to visit Nepal as a Special Presidential Envoy from November 1 (Wednesday) to 4 (Saturday), monitor cooperation situation in the agricultural and livestock sectors with Nepal including the dairy industry and agricultural technologies and try to win its bid to host the World Expo 2030 in Busan through high-level meetings.

In Nepal, about two thirds of the total population are dependent on agriculture for their livelihood and agriculture accounts for 22% of gross domestic product (GDP). However, Nepal is dependent on the import of many agricultural products due to low agricultural productivity and farmers' incomes are low. As a result, the Republic of Korea has been cooperating for agricultural and rural development of Nepal by transferring its agricultural technologies and sending dairy cattle through the project*. 
* Korea provided 108 dairy cattle to Nepal through public-private partnership with Heifer International Korea, etc. from December 2022 to March 2023. 
 
This was the first visit of Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of the Republic of Korea to Nepal. On his visit, Minister Chung will discuss how to cooperate following the project to send dairy cattle to Nepal and discuss ways of dispatching Korean experts to be stationed in Nepal in order to develop and disseminate agricultural technologies suitable for local conditions.  

Nepal wishes to expand cooperation with Korea in the growth of the dairy industry, breeding improvement of agricultural products and human resource development. As a result, Minister Chung's visit to Nepal will serve as an important opportunity to promote friendly relationship between the two countries in the run up to the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Nepal next year while expanding exchanges and cooperation in the agricultural and livestock sectors.
  
Minister Chung Hwang-keun said, "As Korea transformed itself from a recipient country which received food and dairy cattle to a donor country during the past half-century thanks to the international community's support, Korea plans to continuously transfer its experience and technology of developing the agricultural and livestock industries to Nepal, contributing to enhancing food security in Nepal."
