The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (Minister Chung Hwang-keun, MAFRA) and Korean Food Promotion Institute (Chairperson Lim Kyung-sook) made the announcement to designate excellent Korean restaurants in overseas countries of the second half of 2023.
The project to designate outstanding Korean restaurants in overseas countries has been initiated to enhance the quality of Korean food and protect consumers according to the Act on Korean Food Promotion (enforced on August 28, 2020)
Eight "Super Star" Korean restaurants in New York, Paris and Tokyo were selected∙announced for the first time in this January, and the application for additional designation is open for the second half of this year.
The target cities include New York (The United States), Paris (France) and Tokyo (Japan). Korean restaurants in overseas countries meeting the below qualifications are eligible for applying. Korean restaurants wishing to apply can submit applications and attached documents online (goodhansik@naver.com) from May 18 (Thur.) to June 8 (Thur.). * Qualifications for designation: ➀ A Korean restaurant has been operated in the country for the recent three years, ➁ Hansik or Korean food accounts for more than 60% of the main menu, ➂ A restaurant has not violated sanitation regulations of the country for the recent two years.
If designated as an excellent Korean restaurant in overseas countries, the certificate of designation will be awarded by the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the plaque of designation along with the financial support for the purchase of Korean homegrown ingredients and for promotion will be partially provided.
