S. Korea and Mongolia Sign Revised MoU to Broaden Agricultural Cooperation

Sejong, 9 July 2026 — Minister Song Miryung of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) visited Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on 8 July, on the occasion of the summit between the Republic of Korea and Mongolia. During her visit, Minister Song met Minister Iderbat Tsagaankhuu of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector.

Trade between the two countries has continued to expand since diplomatic relations were established in 1990. Furthermore, the bilateral strategic partnership formed in 2021 has been providing a much stronger impetus to bilateral trade. In the agricultural sector, through seven meetings of the Korea–Mongolia Joint Agricultural Committee since 2004, the two countries have shared agricultural and rural development policies while implementing cooperative projects in areas including livestock product processing, veterinary services, and vegetable production. During the meeting, the two ministers shared the achievements of these cooperative projects and exchanged views on future areas of cooperation.

On 9 July, Minister Song also attended the exchange ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of the leaders of both countries. Reflecting a shared recognition of recent changes in the agricultural environment, the two ministers agreed to broaden the scope of cooperation, revising and signing an MoU on Cooperation in the Fields of Food and Agriculture.

The revised MoU marks the first update since the original agreement was signed in 2016.

Minister Song stated: “In Mongolia, interest in K-food has been growing, particularly among young consumers. At the same time, the country is a promising market for Korean fresh agricultural products, with significant potential for further export growth. I hope this visit will serve as an opportunity to further promote bilateral trade in agricultural and food products.”
