Background and Purpose of Introduction
In 2010/2011, critical damage worth around KRW 3 trillion occurred from malicious livestock diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease and highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI)
To ensure efficient preventive control and to improve the livestock industry, breeding farms of a certain scale or greater shall seek permit or register at the local government by fulfilling facilities, devices and completing training
Provided the legal basis for the livestock industry permission system with the revision and notification of the Livestock Industry Act on February 22, 2012 (enforced from February 23, 2013)

Targets of Livestock Breeding Industry Registration (12 livestock kinds) (Paragraph 2, Article 22 of the Livestock Industry Act)
Livestock breeding industry not included in the permit (cows, pigs, chickens and ducks) and breeding industry of sheep, goats, deers, geese, turkeys, quails, ostrich, and pheasants
Livestock breeding industry excluded from registration target (Article 14-3 of the Enforcement Decree of the Livestock Industry Act, and Article 27-4 of the Enforcement Rule of the same act)
Livestock breeding industry of chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, quails, ostrich and pheasant with land area of livestock breeding facility below 10㎡

Location Standards: New restrictions for permit include within 30m from local roads and within 500m from livestock related facilities (slaughterhouses, feed factories, fuel traps and breeding stock sites, etc.)
By the ordinance of local government, the distance limit may be increased or decreased within 1/2
Training Requirements: Targets of livestock industry permit, targets of livestock breeding industry registration and livestock traders shall complete education course set by the law
